Truworths Limited is partnering with King Air Industria to build a new world-class distribution centre in Cape Town. This landmark development project will be located in King Air Industria and developed by Atterbury Property and Old Mutual Properties. The new industrial warehouse will be a significant addition to Cape Town’s industrial property sector.
Atterbury developed a tailor-made facility for leading clothing retailer Truworths. Truworths will lease the new building and efficiently consolidate its various Cape Town facilities under one roof. Tony Bales of Epping Property initiated this transaction in 2019. The initial phase of the development consists of a 3,000m² office and a 50,000m² warehouse, totalling 53,000m². There is also an option to expand the facility to 70,000m².
This new industrial warehouse is contributing to the Cape Town industrial property market, currently the leading property sector in South Africa.
Leading, modern, sustainable design
Designed to target an internationally recognised EDGE sustainability certification, the new development for Truworths is due to break ground in October 2022. The building is scheduled for completion in November 2023. Leading businesses prefer new industrial buildings for a variety of reasons.
Emanuel Cristaudo, Chief Financial Officer of Truworths, comments, “As a result of business growth, we have spent some time looking to build a larger, state-of-the-art distribution centre to accommodate our future requirements. The proximity of King Air Industria and the business park benefits have led us to conclude an agreement with Atterbury. We feel Atterbury has a good understanding of our warehousing business needs. This positions us well for the future, and we are looking forward to the completion of this project.”
King Air Industria offers a great location
Arno du Plessis, Atterbury’s development manager for King Air Industria Cape Town, says, “Truworths is an excellent addition to King Air Industria Cape Town. We are excited to be working with this leading national and international retailer. The development roll-out of King Air Industria is making excellent progress. Attracting a high calibre of businesses that want to be near the airport. Most importantly, those seeking quality, efficient premises supporting their business and sustainability goals.”
Located in a prime position, King Air Industria’s easy access to Cape Town International Airport cargo terminals is a significant advantage. It is between Airport Approach, Borcherds Quarry, Robert Sobukwe and Pallotti roads. Connected to the city and inland region with excellent access to the N2 highway and the R300 freeway. Logistics is certainly changing the face of industrial warehousing.
The 72ha King Air Industria Cape Town offers all the on-site infrastructure and around-the-clock security features for high-performance businesses. It is already home to The Courier Guy operating in a 10,112m² turnkey facility and Morgan Cargo in a 7,500m² provincial head office building with a specialised cold storage facility.
“We are enjoying great leasing momentum in the Western Cape leasing. Not only at King Air Industria but also at other properties, including Richmond Park, where the demand-driven development roll-out is proceeding at an exciting pace,” says Mia Kitshoff, Atterbury Leasing Manager for the Western Cape.
Atterbury recently signed a deal with Takealot for a 20,400m² second phase of its Richmond Park distribution facility. This will take the facility’s total size to 44,000m² when completed in June 2023. It also signed hardware retailer Brights for 6,000m², which will be completed in November 2023.
Epping Property has a long track record of initiating and concluding various significant industrial property transactions.
